You have to invest more than just money.
During any big transition, it’s natural to worry about the future. When it’s time to retire, some people fear losing contact with their coworkers, which could result in isolation or loneliness. Other people worry about losing the purpose provided by employment, leaving them feeling aimless. This two-day workshop helps you address such fears at their deepest level and work through them in a program adapted from our book Mindful Retirement.
Where most retirement workshops help you prepare your finances, our workshop helps to strengthen your resilience. Rather than talking about money and investments, we gather important insights from the arts, music, philosophy, and history to show you the dangerous risks faced by new retirees. Then we provide the most reliable, time-tested strategies for facing and overcoming those risks. Our program gets to the core of what really matters, helping you find a firm foundation where you can plant your feet and stand tall for years to come.
This two-day workshop is adapted from Mindful Retirement, written by William Adler and Paul Cockeram. You can read the Introduction to the book by clicking here. It will give you a feel for our style and a comprehensive overview of what we intend to accomplish. Exercises at the end of each chapter will help you put the ideas and insights into action, leaving you with a plan to follow and a path to move forward.

Three-Hour Workshop Sessions
$195.00
We have organized our program into three-hour sessions. The first session covers common problems faced by newly retiring people and how to overcome them. We provide an action plan to get you through the hardest stage of retirement, the first 120 days.
The second three-hour session focuses on ways to stay in touch with the people who matter most to you while planning for the future. We help you imagine your legacy.
The third and fourth sessions give you the tools you’ll need to find meaning and purpose in the last stages of life. Retirees who lose a strong sense of meaning and purpose are in danger of losing everything. We won’t let that happen to you.
Every session of our program helps you expect the unexpected. Lectures, workbook activities, and group discussions help you face new challenges with wisdom and patience. Membership in each session includes
A copy of relevant chapters from our book, Mindful Retirement (We recommend reading the chapters before workshop begins)
Lunch
A half hour of individual, follow-up counseling with Bill and Paul
Our next three-hour session is planned for June 2025 with flexible scheduling.
Individual Counseling
$250/hr
Like anything worth doing well, meaningful retirement requires practice. Our discrete, one-hour counseling sessions are perfect for retirees who need advice on how to handle a setback. If you’re familiar with our strategies and looking for advice on how to implement them in your life, we’ve got you covered. And we’re always happy to offer a few words of encouragement about what you’re getting right.
The standalone cost of our book Mindful Retirement is $50. This cost will be deducted from the cost of your first counseling appointment, and a copy of the book will be provided to counseling clients.
